Great Expectations (Archives)
The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra 2009-2010 season repertoire includes some of Christopher Zimmerman's personal favorites, some seldom-heard works by classical masters, and a focus over two concerts on the composer, Sibelius. The over-arching artistic theme for the season is the contrast and interconnectedness of classical and modern composers who influenced each other and the development of symphonic music. "I have chosen works with a logical connection, and with an emphasis on the British and American music, since that is my heritage," says Zimmerman of his selections. "I was fortunate to have extraordinary guest artists already contracted, and it was a challenge to put my mark on the season and introduce myself to Fairfax audiences, while selecting repertoire to complement the solos that the guest artists were already engaged to play."
